Light for Young Cactus Seedlings
← All growing guides

Photograph for growing reference; seedling results vary by species and conditions.
Start gently
New cactus seedlings need adequate light for sturdy growth, but sudden exposure to harsh midday sun can injure delicate tissues. Start with bright, indirect light or a suitably positioned grow light.
Watch the plants
Stretching or unusually pale growth can indicate insufficient light; bleaching or dry, discolored patches can indicate excessive light or heat. Adjust gradually rather than making sudden changes.
Move toward mature conditions
As seedlings establish and grow, acclimate them in stages toward the lighting needs of the particular species. Variegated seedlings can be especially sensitive, so assess them individually.
