What our cactus seed kit includes:
- Takeaway Tek Container
- Seeds in a Small Vial/Container
- Small Spray Bottle
- Small Shovel for Planting
- Disinfecting Wipes
- Toothpicks
- Packet of Soil
- Small Packet of Worm Castings
- Instruction Manual
Instructions:
- Step One: Empty your soil packet into the Takeaway Tek container. Fill the spray bottle with non-tap water (a water bottle’s contents would be fine) and mist the soil until thoroughly moist.
- Step Two: Microwave the Takeaway Tek container without the lid on with thoroughly dampened soil for 30 seconds on high to 1 minute on medium to disinfect the soil. Allow to thoroughly cool before handling again. Meanwhile, disinfect the shovel and the lid using one or more wipes as needed.
- Step Three: Carefully remove container from microwave. Sprinkle the contents of the Worm castings on top of the soil, then use the shovel to gently mix in the worm castings. Mist the soil again to ensure it is moist – not soaking wet, but clearly moist.
- Step Four: Sprinkle the contents of the seed container on top of the soil, and try to evenly distribute the seeds across the surface.
- Step Five: Place the lid on top of the container and press tight to close it.
- Step Six: Place the kit in a window sill with low or partial light. Carefully monitor the container each day over the next several weeks to ensure it does not dry out. You should see mist or fog forming on the inside of the lid – that is fine. This means the moisture inside the container is staying put and will continue to give the seeds the moisture they need to grow.
- Step Seven: Over the course of several weeks, you will start to see the seeds growing. Allow them to grow until they reach an inch tall. At that point, you can transplant them into other containers or pots. If you start to see any mold forming (such as a small white mold that may sometimes form on the soil if not properly sterilized), then take the unopened toothpicks, disinfect them with a wipe, and very, very gently remove the mold. Be careful not to knock over any existing cactus seedlings.
